The team track disappearances to an old country village. While camping
out to find the alien killers they go and investigate movement in the woods.
While discovering a stripped carcass their car is stolen. They track it
to an abandoned house and find all manner of gruesome finds from ripped
bodies to refridgerated body parts.
After several confrontations with villagers they eventually find the killers - the whole village. There's no escape and the entire team has already been captured for carving up. Well, all except one. Can Jack break into the fortified meeting hall and save the team before they become the main course?
I'd already seen the episode of declassified where RTD says something like this episode is an exploration into the human mind. So, I was expecting that there wouldn't be any aliens in this story and that it would be about serial killing cannibals. So I wasn't expecting much from this story. I am a science fiction fan, after all!
Even so I can remember watching this and with every new scene or piece of direction thinking 'cool'. This is one of those excellent 'team working together' episodes with some great lines that I can't type here for fear of search engines banning the page and for the simple reason that it's best if you hear them in context.
The original thing about this story was that the whole village was behind the killings. X-Files featured a number of cannibal stories from crazy cannibal families to cannibal psychos like Toombs. There will be many comparisons with X-Files, and Torchwood is bound to cross the same fields, as X-Files ran for 8 years. But, as far as I remember, no entire villages were serial killing psycho cannibals. So 9 out of 10.
And an extra point for being the first story in a long time to make me feel nauseaus. Don't watch this while you're eating.
Captain Jack (John Barrowman) and his team confront a terrifying enemy
Concerned that the space-time rift is spreading, the Torchwood team investigates a series of gruesome deaths in the Brecon Beacons village of Brynblaidd, as Russell T Davies's sci-fi thriller continues. They need to find out what sort of creature could cause such shocking injuries. Stranded without communications or equipment, and isolated from one another, the team confronts a terrifying enemy.
Torchwood leader Captain Jack Harkness is played by John Barrowman.
