Summaries, reviews and news on the new series of Dr Who, starring Jodie Whitaker as The Doctor, and recently, Peter Capaldi as The Doctor, Matt Lucas as Nardole and Pearl Mackie as Bill.

Regarding future episodes news, please assume that 'It has been rumoured that, suggested that' and 'media articles point to the idea that' is in front of every sentence,so you won't be disappointed. Most news is cobbled together from various sources and can change at the last minute, and that includes titles of stories! Most of this is NOT confirmed. Please enjoy these possible spoilers while waiting for the real news!

Congratulations to Jodie Whitaker for getting the coveted role of the 13th Doctor.
Welcome to the world of Doctor Who. Your life will never be the same again!

Doctor Who first started in the UK on the 23rd November 1963 and ran continually until 1989. (There was a test screening of the pilot episode a week previously in a small area of London but that doesn't count!) The science fiction, fantasy and metaphysical / speculative television series continued in the form of books, stage plays, comics, magazines and audio adventures. In 1996 a US/UK co-financed telemovie burst onto our screens. It didn't rate well in the US so a related series was never taken up. 2005 and Russell T Davies got the nod to bring back Doctor Who as a TV series. In 2010 Steven Moffat continued the legacy.

Doctor Who is a BBC children's 53 year old speculative, science fiction, fantasy and metaphysical TV series featuring Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Ice Warriors, Zygons, Silurians, Yeti and other monsters and aliens. The Doctor, the main character of the television programme, travels through space and time via the time vortex in a spaceship called the TARDIS, which is disguised as a 1960s London Police Box.

273. 100617 by Mark Gatiss
The Classic Monster Story
BBC Blurb: The Doctor, Bill and Nardole arrive on Mars, and find themselves in an impossible conflict between Ice Warriors… and Victorian soldiers. As the Martian hive awakens around them, the Doctor faces a unique dilemma - this time the humans, not the Ice Warriors are the invaders. When Earth is invading Mars, whose side is he on?

3610. The Eaters of Light
274. 170617 by Rona Munro
The Beautiful Story
BBC Blurb: A long time ago, the ninth legion of the Roman army vanished into the mists of Scotland. Bill has a theory about what happened, and the Doctor has a time machine. But when they arrive in ancient Aberdeenshire, what they find is a far greater threat than any army. In a cairn, on a hillside, is a doorway leading to the end of the world…

Rona previously wrote Survival, featuring Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace and Anthony Ainley as The Master. So happy Rona has returned to pen another. 5 stars out of five for this one. A beautiful slow-burn historical with some great lines and amazing scenery. Caveat Emptor: Rona has now added to the Doctor Who mythos by saying that the Doctor and the TARDIS makes everyone sound like children. (Ipso facto: It filters out all the swear words!) Finally, that question is answered! Thank you, Rona! (For those who have not yet watched the classic series, the translation ability of the Doctor was first mentioned in the historical The Masque of Mandragora - another slow-burn story with fantasy elements - as a Time Lord give that he allows you to share.)

3611. World Enough and Time
275. 240617 by Steven Moffat
BBC Blurb: Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake? Are events already out of control? For once, time is the Time Lord’s enemy…
Michelle Gomez guest stars as Missy.

If you enjoyed this episode, and would like to read more stories based in and around a very long multiple environment space ship, please check out my Alien Characters series. The ship that my characters travel on, called The Celestial Breeze, is 1000 miles long (about 1600 kilometres, or the size of New Zealand) and features many different environments in a cylindrical shape around a central core - including an industrial era city on level 17!

3612. The Doctor Falls
276.   010717 by Steven Moffat
The Actor's Request Story
BBC Blurb: The Mondasian Cybermen are on the rise. It’s time for the Doctor’s final battle…
The Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, Bill by Pearl Mackie and Nardole by Matt Lucas. Michelle Gomez guest stars as Missy and John Simm stars as the Master.

Peter Capaldi gets his wish and has his childhood cybermen in this episode. The first cybermen from Mondas, the twin planet of Earth from our universe.
These could be the ones that escaped the destruction of the Tenth Planet, of which the Doctor is partly responsible. Will they get their revenge?

I just hope that they bring back the Zarbi, Menoptera and Optera for the Christmas special!

3613X. Twice Upon a Time
276. 251217 by Steven Moffat
Starring Peter Capaldi as the twelfth (12th) Doctor, David Bradley as the first (1st) Doctor, and  Jodie Whitaker as the thirteenth (13th) Doctor

Previously I suggested the final doctor episode would be Fall of the House of the Doctor. It turns out that Steven Moffat has chosen The Doctor Falls. Still. Pretty close. It means in 10 years I've picked 10 of the titles about 9 months to a year in advance. Stay tuned for more uncanny predictions! (If you've just found out about the SylvesterMcCoy site - it's celebrating 17 years online this year. Thanks for visiting.)
