Doctor Who World War III
163. 230405. 105 Episode 2 by Russell T Davies
Starring Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose. Description and review.

The story continues with the Doctor being strong enough to remove the electrifying ID tag and put it on the Slitheen. As all the Slitheen are family and are connected, all of them are suddenly electrified allowing Rose's mother, Harriet, Rose and the Doctor to escape. Unfortunately all the ET experts died.

After much rushing to and fro throughout number 10 Downing Street the Doctor, Harriet and Rose end up in the boardroom again, this time protected via steel shutters so that they can't get out but the Slitheens can't get in either.

While talking to the Slitheen he finds that their plan is to take control of the nuclear missiles of the world and attack the aliens, by telling everyone that aliens have invaded with weapons of mass destruction capable of destroying anywhere in the world in 45 seconds. Their actual plan is to destroy Earth and sell the molten mass off bit by bit to space farers. (They're broadcasting an advertisement - sale sale sale!)

Mickey rescues Rose's mum from the Slitheen and takes her to his flat. He's able to contact Rose via mobile and send a picture of the Slitheen which gets the Doctor's attention.

Unfortunately the Slitheen has worked out where they have gone and smashes down Mickey's door. Harriet, Rose and the Doctor try to work out whether these aliens have a weekness and he figures it out just as the Slitheen breaks into Mickey's kitchen. Vinegar is lethal to them!

After destroying the Slitheen Doctor directs Mickey to log in to the UNIT web site and help launch a missile to destroy number 10. It is the only way they can defeat the Slitheen.

Rose's mum doesn't want her to die, doesn't want the Doctor to do anything that might hurt Rose but it is the only way to save the human race. As most of the mps are either dead or unavailable, Harriet assumes command and orders the Doctor to save them. The Doctor gives Mickey the password 'buffalo' and sets a missile on its course.

The Slitheen really hate being in their bodies and any chance they get they get out of them. Which means a lot of scenes show them unzipping their heads and getting out of their bodies.

The Slitheen family meet at the red phone and wait for the United Nations to give them the codes that will enable them to launch a full nuclear attack on the Earth. The spaceship in the Thames is just parked and they plan to hide their until the bombing has stopped.

Until that time the entire family of about 20 Slitheen gather in the Prime Minister's office and await the beginning of their new business.

The soldiers downstairs are alerted to the incoming missile and set off the alarm. They leave safely but the Slitheen do not have time to get back into their clothes before the missile strikes.

Does the Doctor, Rose and Harriet survive the missile?

Actually this episode was better than the last one and I definitely liked the ending. But I have to say I hope the Slitheen family never turn up again. If they can be got rid of just with a glass of vinegar, that's worse than gold coins from a sling shot.

And why did Mickey have vegetables in vinegar in his cupboard anyway? And in plastic containers too? When does he have time to pickle vegetables?

6 out of 10 for the first 2 part story since Dimensions in Time!
