The Macra!!! As in The Macra Terror!!!

The Macra Terror was one of my favourite Troughton episodes written by Ian Stuart Black and he even gets a credit at the end. What a thrill to see them in Doctor Who again. I certainly didn't see that coming. The Macra!!! Coooooool!

Even so, once you get over the initial Doctor Who fan buzz, you remember they were one of the crappiest creatures in the history of Doctor Who so, thankfully, they are just a side issue. The Doctor is transported by a nun nurse who featured in the episode New Earth, to visit the Face of Boe. We find out that the entire city of people above are dead, killed by a bliss virus, and that the Face of Boe is protecting the people in the undercity, or motorway.

The Doctor releases the vents and opens the exits, with the help of the Face of Boe, and clears Martha's car to land in the city.

The Face of Boe tells the Doctor "You are not alone"" then dies. The Doctor tells Martha about the Time War and that the Timelords and the Daleks fought it out and killed each other. He's the last of the Time Lords.

If these four words are supposed to be a great secret, it was a real anticlimax. We waited a whole year to be told what we assumed anyway? And why would this be a secret talked about for millions of years? Oh, well. The Macra were in it so that makes everything okay!
7 out of 10.
