New Doctor Who Series 2013 Season / Series 33 / 7 / 3
Doctor Who first started in the UK on the 23rd November 1963 and ran continually until 1989. (There was a test screening of the pilot episode a week previously in a small area of London but that doesn't count!) Doctor Who continued in the form of books, stage plays, comics, magazines and audio adventures. In 1996 a US/UK co-financed telemovie burst onto our screens. It didn't rate well in the US so a related series was never taken up. 2005 and Russell T Davies got the nod to bring back Doctor Who as a TV series. In 2010 Steven Moffat continued the legacy. Woo hoo!
Season/Series 33 / 7
starring Matt Smith as the Doctor

3307. The Bells of Saint John
232 300313 by Steven Moffat
BBC Blurb: The Doctor’s search for Clara Oswald brings him to modern day London, where wifi is everywhere.

Humanity lives in a wi-fi soup. But something dangerous is lurking in the signals, picking off minds and imprisoning them. As Clara becomes the target of this insidious menace, the Doctor races to save her and the world from an ancient enemy.

3308. The Rings of Akhaten
233 060313 by Neil Cross
Clara wants to see something awesome, so the Doctor whisks her off to the inhabited rings of the planet Akhaten, where the Festival of Offerings is in full swing.

Clara meets the young Queen of Years as the pilgrims and natives ready for the ceremony. But something is stirring in the pyramid, and a sacrifice will be demanded.

3309. Cold War
234 130413 by Mark Gatiss
One by one submarine crew are dying in mysterious, cold, circumstances. The Doctor realises that a great intelligence is involved but this time he's not using snowmen or yeti. It's the return of the Ice Warriors for us but it is actually a prequel, just like Snowmen was a prequel to the Abominable Snowmen.
Will one of the Ice Warriors become frozen to be found in the future in the Patrick Troughton episode - The Ice Warriors?

BBC Blurb:
The Doctor and Clara land on a damaged Russian Submarine in 1983 as it spirals out of control into the ocean depths. An alien creature is loose on board, having escaped from a block of Arctic ice. With tempers flaring and a cargo of nuclear weapons on board, it’s not just the crew but the whole of humanity at stake!

3310. Hide
235 200413 by Neil Cross
BBC Blurb: Clara and the Doctor arrive at Caliburn House, a haunted mansion sat alone on a desolate moor. Within its walls, a ghost hunting Professor and a gifted psychic are searching for the Witch of the Well. Her apparition appears throughout the history of the building, but is she really a ghost? And what is chasing her?

3311. Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS
236 270413 by Stephen Thompson
BBC Blurb: A spaceship salvage team drags the TARDIS on board, sending its systems into meltdown.
As the Doctor marshals the motley salvage crew outside, he realises Clara is still trapped within his malfunctioning ship, pursued by a dangerous group of ossified monsters. He has just 30 minutes to find Clara and save his TARDIS before it self-destructs.

3312. The Crimson Horror
237 040513 by Mark Gatiss
BBC Blurb: There’s something very odd about Mrs Gillyflower’s Sweetville mill, with its perfectly clean streets and beautiful people.

There’s something even stranger about the bodies washing up in the river, all bright red and waxy. When the Doctor and Clara go missing, it’s up to Vastra, Jenny and Strax to rescue them before they too fall victim to the Crimson Horror!

Continuing on from The Snowmen, the Doctor and Clara meet Madam Vastra, Jenny and Strax. "You found her!" "Oh, so you're not dead then." Victorian town called Sweetville has a factory run by Mrs Gillyflower that Clara gets processed in. Clara doesn't remember anything that happened in 'The Snowmen'

3313. Nightmare in Silver
238 110513 by Neil Gaiman
BBC Blurb: Hedgewick’s World of Wonders was once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, but it’s now the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a chess-playing dwarf and a dysfunctional army platoon.

When the Doctor, Clara, Artie and Angie arrive, the last thing they expect is the re-emergence of one of the Doctor’s oldest foes. The Cybermen are back!

This is by Neil Gaiman who wrote The Doctor's Wife, which was simply awesome and added, in a subtle way, to the legend of the Doctor's origins. As it is by Neil Gaiman I'm sure the plot will be epic, contain sweeping references to Doctor Who history, along with references to Mondas, Telos and the linear history of the Cybermen, lots of subtle references to future events and more whogasms than you can poke a stick at. Oh, and did I say it's by Neil Gaiman? It may very well be set on Mondas in the past or Telos in the future, and be a ghost story. Definitely looking forward to this one. It's by Neil Gaiman!

3314. The Name of the Doctor
239 180513 by Stephen Moffat.
BBC Blurb: Clara is summoned to an impossible conference call, alerting her that the deadly Whisper Men are closing in on Vastra, Jenny and Strax. Someone is kidnapping the Doctor’s friends, leading him toward the one place in all of time and space that he should never go. It’s a deadly trap that threatens to unravel his past, present and future...

50th anniversary

What we know:

In the Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe, the Doctor was encouraged to search out his friends. As he needs to keep a low profile, he might as well go and meet some other old friends.

The 2013 series will be recognising the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who so it's expected that actors and actresses who are still alive, available and willing, from the past 50 years of the show, will make an appearance reprising their 'old' characters.

Rumoured appearances by Wendy Padbury, Frazer Hines, Russel Enoch (William Russel), Katy Manning, Louise Jamieson and a number of other actors and actresses still working in the industry.

If a multi-doctor story does go ahead then Sylvester McCoy, Peter Davison and David Tennant have expressed interest in reprising their roles. Colin Baker and Paul McGann may also return, depending on the script. Tom Baker would like to be in it but not as the 4th Doctor. He'd like to play an evil doctor character or a supreme villain. If Christopher Eccleston could be convinced that the 2013 production crew are caring, kind, considerate people who treat everyone with respect and kindness at all times from the tea boy / girl to the executive producer, and he's not working on a Hollywood movie at the time, he *may* consider it.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary in style, the episode to be broadcast on the 23rd November 2013 will not only feature just about every monster that ever appeared in Doctor Who in some form (a galactic conference?), as well as perhaps some past Doctors and companions, be the longest ever single episode in the history of Doctor Who (longer than the telemovie) but will also feature the revealing of the Doctor's real name.

Also, it's possible that Stephen Moffat has looked ahead and recorded some scenes years ago for the special. He also has access to all the outtakes from episodes such as the Five Doctors which he could easily weave into well written storylines. "Here Clara, look at the screen. This was me almost a thousand years ago..."
